Bhutan Gasa

Gasa is a dzongkhag in Bhutan which is situated at the top in the map of Bhutan. The state is inaccessible by car or rail and people have to walk on foot to reach Gasa. The residents of dzongkhag are called Gasaps and they speak the official language of Bhutan, which is called Dzongkha.

Bhutan Gasa is known for its hot springs, which are visited by people from all over the country especially during the winter months. Hot springs in Gasa are known to cure different kinds of ailments and that is one of the reasons people come to this place.

The climate in Gasa is very cold during the winter months which extends from october to march. The dzongkhag also experiences snowfall during these months. Summers in Bhutan Gasa, are comparatively warmer.

Going to Bhutan Gasa can take about 2 days on foot or horse, however, the government of Bhutan does have plans to make motor roads.

The main reason people visit the place is because of their hotsprings which are known as “tsachus” and when they visit, they put up in tents, cook their own food and stay for days to weeks soaking in the hotsprings in the hope of curing their body ailments, such as backaches, bone aches, stomach pains, blood pressure etc. Whether the hotsprings really help in curing those numerous ailments is another question altogether.

The vegetation of Bhutan Gasa is season dependent. While is mostly green filled with fresh flowers and leaves in the summer, it is almost barren in the winter months.
